Saturday, January 21, 2017 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Our first social of 2017! We’ll learn about immersive audio, and the artistic possibilities of glitches, mods and cheats!
Plus, we’re teaming up with our BFFs at Charles Street Video again to present their VIDEO CHUCK! CSV + DMG members are invited to bring along short film, video and interactive work to present.
After the talks, we chat, mingle, and share some snacks. All are welcome, and it’s always free!
As video games have evolved, their soundtracks have grown and embraced the concept of creating an immersive experience which TV and Film have been building on for decades. To create a fully immersive experience, it’s important to carve out a sonic identity. You have to consider the big picture as well as the small details in order to make your world, your characters and your story feel real. We’ll review how the history of sound design in TV and film has influenced game audio design, while also recognizing what sets games apart.
Yifat will explore how game glitches, mods and cheats are used by players as means of self-expression, and how underrepresented groups have or can use these tools to create an alternative way to play and create games.
Sophia talks about the process behind designing and developing Forgotten with Arielle Grimes.
Short, experimental games are often like lyric poetry, creating an idea, a mood, a sketch of a scene, and then leaving the audience to meditate and feel it. This is what Forgotten does in its scant few minutes, and it does it well.

Our monthly member meeting and social—open to everyone—aims to showcase the work of queer and gender-marginalized folks involved with games in a wide variety of roles. Designers, developers, artists, critics, fans, writers, people new to games and seasoned pros are all welcome and have shared the mic at DMG.
It's also a platform for participants to find encouragement, resources and a venue for speaking about their work in a supportive and productive environment.
