6:00pm - 9:30pm
DMG HQ @ 32 Lisgar Street • At the Toronto Media Arts Centre (32 Lisgar Street)
Join us for a hands-on, practice-based workshop to learn about game design fundamentals, creating playful experiences and the iterative game design process!
During this workshop, you’ll create a paper-based game (board game, card game or paper prototype of a digital game), practice generating and testing ideas, and learn how to put finishing touches on your prototype.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a finished, playable game prototype! Note: This is an intense, hands-on, and highly participatory workshop. It’s designed to be an enjoyable experience, but does require you to collaborate and actively engage. Come ready to roll your sleeves up!
This workshop is perfect for anyone new to game design – no previous experience is necessary. No need to bring a laptop, but if you have favorite pencils or markers feel free to bring them! We’ll also supply additional prototyping/craft materials.
Yifat Shaik is an Israeli-born game designer and artist, and a co-director of Dames Making Games. A Master of Design graduate from OCAD University in Toronto, her work and research focuses on online game socialization, political activism in gaming and the creation of unique and evocative game worlds.
When not teaching game design, Yifat creates Unity-based interactive art installations and games, including Real Army Simulator, a satirical narrative game about being in the army, and chaotic games about Brutalist architecture and Origami.
