Gym Jam

Friday, May 29, 2015, 6:00pm - Sunday, May 31, 2015, 8:00pm

Bento Miso • At the Toronto Media Arts Centre (32 Lisgar Street)

This May, we’re making games about SPORTS, ACTION, ATHLETICISM, playing together and being in it to win it! Games to gather around, train for and emerge victorious from. We want to see love on the gymnastics mat, bitter badminton rivals, wrestling for glamour, virtual reality trampoline stunts, gesture-controlled synchronized swimming, turn-based table tennis and diving dating sims.

The Rules

  • Your game should be multiplayer (competitive, co-operative, or collaborative)
  • Your game should work well in a tournament: Aim for short rounds with final score or time trial
  • We strongly recommend designing for Xbox-style controller inputs rather than keyboard and mouse (we will provide controllers)
  • Break the sport, break the rules
  • YES, you can start the jam early!
  • Onsite jamming is for registered members only, but the demo night is open to the public!

Games created during GYM JAM will have the opportunity to be exhibited in an arcade and part of a tournament at a major event taking place during the Pan Am Games!

  • May 13, 7 p.m.: Info session (we highly recommend all jammers attend!)
  • May 29, 6-9 p.m.: Registration and team forming
  • May 30, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.: Jam!
  • May 31, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.: Jam!
  • May 31, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.: Public Demos

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, tea and snacks will be provided each day. We are happy to accommodate food preferences and allergies. Just make sure to note them in your member profile.

TTC tokens are available by request. We also have a limited number of laptops available to borrow during the jam.
