Learn to centre marginalized identities and develop a compelling and diverse cast of characters in your games.

Creating Appealing Character Narratives

Thursday, September 7, 2017
6:30pm - 9:30pm

at Gamma Space, 862 Richmond Street West

Interested in improving diverse representation in your game? POC and looking for tips and inspiration to express your identity in interactive art and games? This is the workshop for you!

In this practical workshop – led by artists Gabriela Aveiro-Ojeda, Royel Edwards and Leisha-Marie Riddel – you’ll learn to create character-driven narratives that centre marginalized and racialized identities.

There’s no “correct” way to write a character of colour. Instead, we will survey examples of representation from mainstream and independent media, dive into specific methods to counter racist portrayals, and get into some hands-on exercises with feedback and discussion with experienced game designers.
