Game Development with Unity for Beginners

About Game Development with Unity for Beginners

Have you used other gamemaking tools but want to learn how to use Unity? Brand-new to gamemaking and want to try out a popular engine? This is the workshop for you!

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of Unity, a popular gamemaking tool used by a wide range of gamemakers, including triple-A and indie studios, freelance developers and solo artists.

What you’ll learn: • The benefits of using Unity and advantages over other tools • How to navigate and use the interface and basic built-in components • Basic terminology and design vocabulary • How to bring in art assets and implement pre-made code • How to find free resources to learn more on your own

Is this for me? This workshop is perfect for: • Anyone who has never made a game before and is curious about it. No programming, art, design or gaming experience or skills necessary. • Experienced game developers who have never used Unity before, or have but want a structured introduction to its paradigms. • Dames Making Games will be hosting several Unity-based workshops in the future, so this workshop is recommended for anyone who is looking to start using Unity or who might be interested in participating in future workshops!

What to bring: • If you have a Windows (XP, 7, or 8) or Mac (OS 10.6+) laptop, please bring it. Download and install Unity 3D before the workshop (it’s free). • If you do not have access to a laptop for the night of the workshop, that’s not a problem! Let us know ahead of time, and we’ll have one ready for you to use. • Light refreshments will be provided, and TTC tokens are available by request.

About DMG Workshops: We offer a wide range of free and low-cost events, workshops, resources and services to our community of women, trans* and queer game-makers and their friends. This workshop is open to anyone of any gender.
