We are very excited to announce the artists participating in the Origin Stories exhibition, highlighting the origins and paths of some of Toronto’s experimental video game makers and the impact of community support in fostering new work in this medium. Over eight weeks, participants will patch, update and expand original work created through one of DMG’s programs.
Spanning seven years of long programs – DMG’s free 8-week training intensive for new game makers – the works represent each artist’s initial foray into games or interactive immersive media. The Origin Stories program and exhibition will draw critical connections between these artists’ early experiments and later work.
The process of “improving” the games – so that they are playable on 2020 platforms, better fulfill the artists’ original intentions, and are suitable for public presentation in a gallery – will be documented and integrated with design-process artifacts and biographical materials at the Origin Stories exhibition at the Toronto Media Arts Centre April 9-15, 2020.
This exhibition is made possible with the support of the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Media Arts Centre
Please join us for the opening reception on April 9 at 8pm. Facebook Event.
