March Speaker Social Recap

Missed March’s social? Check out announcements and upcoming programs here!

March 14, 2015

Tonight marks the third anniversary of our monthly speaker socials! Almost 120 women have presented about their work in games and art at Dames Making Games since March 2012.

The GDC Convoy is back and had a blast in San Francisco. We’ll have a recap up on the blog soon. Thank you to Izzie, Steph and Soha who wrangled and organized and made the trip smooth and safe for everyone.

Coming Up

Merritt Kopas is giving a workshop at Ryerson Studio for Media Activism & Critical Thought. She’ll focus on the work women are doing in games and on alternative forms of play by marginalized creators. March 19 at Transmedia Zone, Ryerson University (80 Gould St.)

Our monthly studio night for members is coming up on March 25. Bring a project-in-progress to work on and talk about!

Rad GIFs in Unity with Cale Bradbury. Make weird, wild animations and GIF art for your game or web site. Free for members. $10 nonmembers. March 31.

Indigicade, our collaboration with the Indigenous Routes collective, starts soon. Eight Indigenous girls will make their own games over 10 weeks. We’re looking for mentors, especially Indigenous women artists working in any medium (no gamemaking experience is required, we are happy to train - and mentors can make their own game, too!).

Bit Bazaar applications are open now! Bit Bazaar is a video game marketplace and gallery exhibition organized by DMG co-director Jennie Faber. The spring 2015 edition takes place May 9. If you make small weird games, and handcrafted/DIY stuff like zines, prints, plush toys, etc. - please apply, it’s free and we want lots of dames there.

Presentations from tonight’s presenters will be captioned and available on the member BBS within 30 days.
