Call for Mentors and Volunteers

May 30, 2013

Mentors

We’re welcoming 10 new game-makers to DMG, and we need mentors from this community to help with troubleshooting, guidance, and support.

Mentors are the backbone of our long programs. Past participants tell us getting to know Toronto’s generous, skilled, and creative indie designers, developers, and producers is their favorite part of their experience.

You are right there when they run into a blood-curdling bug; you see where they’re trying to go with their design and offer tips and shortcuts; you buoy their confidence and clear a path so they can learn to solve their own problems. You listen, you provide focus.

There are six mentoring/work sessions, and we’d love it if you could join us for any of them (no need to commit to the full schedule — we know, it’s summer!):

  • Saturdays: June 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 13 (1 – 4 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, July 10 (7 – 10 p.m.)

If you are available for any of these dates, please let us know by signing up for our mentor mailing list. Once you’ve done so, drop us a line and let us know what dates you’re available.

Volunteers

We’re also looking for a few good peeps to help out with various non-game-related tasks during the incubator.

Incubator Meetings

Wednesdays and Saturdays in June
  • Transcription: Turning audio recordings of the workshops into blog posts and tutorials (no need to attend – this can be done in your free time)
  • Picking up food: Grab snacks from the grocery store after work
  • Playtesting games: Play through participants’ prototypes — even better if you’re not much of a game player!
  • Set up and clean up: Moving furniture, taking out the trash

At Public Events

June 21 (mid-incubator social) and July 20 (showcase + social)
  • Running the merch table: Sell t-shirts, buttons, books and memberships
  • Running the door: Buzz people in and greet them as they arrive
  • Serving alcohol and food: Run the food/beverage table (Smart Serv certified preferred but not required!)
